About Dr. Maggie

Dr. Maggie McCarthy PT, DPT, SCS

Maggie grew up in Upstate New York, just south of Syracuse, where she developed a love for sports, competition, and probably an above-average tolerance for snow. She attended Le Moyne College (Phins Up!) and earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology before heading to Upstate Medical University to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Somewhere between anatomy labs and practical exams, she also managed to meet her future husband; arguably her greatest accomplishment from PT school.

After graduation, Maggie and her husband packed up and hit the road as travel physical therapists, living and working in Maryland, Indiana, and South Carolina. Greenville was originally supposed to be just another stop along the way, but after falling in love with the area (and deciding they were tired of moving every year), they decided to make it home.

Maggie is passionate about helping athletes get back to doing what they love and performing at their highest level. She completed a Sports Physical Therapy Residency, where she gained extensive experience treating Division I and II athletes, providing sideline coverage for a variety of sports, and working closely with sports medicine physicians to optimize athlete care. She became a Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) before pursuing an Upper Extremity and Overhead Athlete Fellowship;an advanced and highly specialized training program focused on caring for throwing athletes. As part of her fellowship, she had the incredible opportunity to serve as one of the physical therapists for the Chicago Cubs throughout the 2025 season.

Although Maggie enjoys treating athletes of all ages and abilities, overhead athletes hold a special place in her heart. Thanks to her fellowship training and time in professional baseball, she has extensive experience with arm care, interval throwing and hitting programs, workload monitoring, post-operative rehabilitation, and return-to-sport testing. She loves combining objective data, current research, and a little bit of hard work to help athletes return safely, efficiently, and with confidence. Maggie is a self-proclaimed research nerd and spends a lot of her free time reading the latest sports medicine literature to ensure her patients receive the highest quality, evidence-based care.

Outside the clinic, you'll likely find Maggie spending time with her husband and their two goldendoodles (Phin and Jalen), visiting family back in New York, or staying active through running, Peloton workouts, weightlifting, hiking, pickleball, and training for future HYROX competitions. She's an avid Miami Dolphins fan (which has taught her resilience better than any continuing education course ever could) a devoted Chicago Cubs supporter, and occasionally breaks out the harmonica, although the exact size of her repertoire remains classified.
